Porcelain veneers are thin layers that are bonded onto the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers are wonderful for treating discoloured, chipped, heavily filled and slightly crooked teeth.
The procedure involves some minor reduction of tooth enamel after which, an impression or copy of the tooth shape is made. Temporary veneers are then placed. The impression is sent to a laboratory where the beautiful new veneers are constructed by master technicians.
At the second appointment, the new veneers are tried in for fit and colour match, and bonded into place.
Crowns, or caps as they are commonly known, are used to strengthen and repair teeth that have been damaged or weakened due to the loss of large amounts of tooth structure.
Crowns are made of gold, porcelain, ceramic or a combination of these materials. The latest advances in bonding technology allow us to be confident that these restorations will perform well for many years.
Bridges are replacement teeth that are fixed onto adjoining teeth by various methods. Eg. crowns. They are commonly made of the same materials as crowns.
Good oral hygiene is especially important where patients have bridges to make sure the teeth and gums around the bridge remain healthy. Your dental hygienist will be able to assist you in showing you the best methods of bridge care.
