FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. At what age should I bring my child in for their first examination? Education Display

As soon as children develop teeth they are at the right age to have an examination. To get them used to the environment, we advise parents to bring their child along with them to their visit. They can go for a ride in the chair and if they are brave enough they may even open their mouth so the dentist can have a look.

Q. How often should I brush my teeth and what sort of brush should I use?

You should brush your teeth twice a day, morning and night. Once you have brushed your teeth, leave the toothpaste on your teeth, spit, don’t rinse. A soft toothbrush should be used with a small head. A medium / hard toothbrush is not recommended.

Q. How often should I floss my teeth?

You should floss your teeth once a day. If you are currently not flossing at all, then start with small steps and floss every second day and then gradually build up until you have reached once per day. Your Hygienist can show you the correct flossing technique.

Q. How often should I have an examination of my teeth?

After your initial examination, your Dentist will be able to advise you if you need to be examined every three, six or twelve months. People at a greater risk for oral diseases may need to have dental check ups more often. Tobacco, alcohol use, diabetes, pregnancy, periodontal and gum disease, poor oral hygiene and certain medical conditions are all taken into account when deciding how often you need to attend.
